How it works, tax assumptions & sources
A steady-state annual planning estimate using 2026/27 rules (6 April 2026–5 April 2027), not a calculation of your remaining tax year or tax return. Enter an average profit, not a daily target or just winning days. Returns and payouts are not guaranteed.
- Annual GBP profit = daily USD profit × GBP per dollar × trading days per week × trading weeks per year × your share. Enter profit after allowable expenses; no additional £1,000 trading allowance is applied.
- Income Tax uses the £12,570 Personal Allowance, reduced by £1 for each £2 above £100,000, and the 20%, 40% and 45% bands. Scotland is not supported.
- Self-employed NI uses Class 4: 6% between £12,570 and £50,270 and 2% above. Voluntary Class 2 is excluded.
- Salary comparison solves for the gross pay producing the same annual take-home. Employee NI uses annual thresholds and rates of 8% and 2%; actual payroll rounding and pay-period thresholds may differ slightly. Employer NI, employer pension and paid-leave benefits are not included.
- Assumes no other income, pension contributions, student loans, marriage allowance, benefits adjustments or other reliefs. If you had earnings earlier in the tax year, this is not your actual current-year tax bill.
- Prop-firm income classification depends on your contract and circumstances. Self-employment is a planning assumption to confirm with a tax adviser. Own-account investing, capital gains and spread betting need different treatment and are not modelled here.
- Losses show zero current tax/NI; loss relief and carry-forward are not modelled. Negative take-home has no salary equivalent. Self Assessment payments on account may affect cash timing; they are not extra tax and are not included in the reserve.
